                                        Start  Seeing Diversity

                                      Diversity

                    Diversity is inclusion
                         Diversity is appreciating
                                Diversity is accepting
                                     Diversity is tolerating
Diversity is seeing all the rainbow colors, acknowledging them and identifying that they all have their own unique qualities
It is respecting me for who I am
It is respecting you for who you are
Diversity is like a rainbow bar, if a color is not represented the rainbow will lose its beauty.
                               Diversity is me and you.

  1. Patience,
I too, have learned so much throughout this class. The required self-reflection is extremely important in our field, and every time I participate in self-reflection I learn something new about myself. I really enjoyed the poem at the end of your post. Tolerance and acceptance are both key components of anti-bias curriculum and diversity. Thank you for being open and sharing your personal insight.

  2. Patience,
Great poem. This poem pretty much sums up what diversity is all about. I think children can appreciate diversity better when they understand that we are all unique. I think learning this definitely starts in early childhood. This course made me really reflect on myself and who I am. I credit this course for giving me the courage to talk to my sister after many years of not talking.

  3. beautifully said!!!! I love your poem. I find the realms of diversity interesting. sometimes we only consider what is on the surface as far a diversity is concerned. therefore, we leave the puzzle incomplete. For instance, I never considered experience, skills, and job level as a piece of diversity. very powerful. :)

  4. Love it! your poem and art display said it all. The pices of puzzel shows us how all of what we are and what we bring to the table of humanity can fit together all we have to do is try.

  6. Your poem is very wonderful and is a great representation of what diversity is and what it means. I also used the puzzle picture in my collage. Diversity is beautiful and is something that the world should appreciate and accept. It is up to us as educators to teach and educate children about diversity.

  8. Patience,
I really like the artwork that you chose for this week's blog. The puzzle pieces with all of the different characteristics was my favorite illustration of diversity. Each characteristics was on a puzzle piece representing how each characteristic fits together for the individual. This class has given me a deeper understanding of the different aspects of diversity.
